Shootings Occur Hours Apart Early Saturday Morning
Security Guards Repel Two Attempts to Enter Base
Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland officials report that Air Force security guards engaged in gunfire with unknown individuals who twice opened fire at an entrance to the base early on Saturday morning, December 10, 2023.
According to officials, the first shooting occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. when a vehicle approached the gate and opened fire on security personnel. The guards returned fire, but the vehicle fled the scene.
Hours later, at around 4:30 a.m., the same gate came under fire again. Security guards once more exchanged gunfire with the shooters, who were in a different vehicle this time. The suspects again fled the scene.
No injuries were reported in either incident, and the suspects remain at large. The FBI is assisting in the investigation.
Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland is a major military installation located in San Antonio, Texas. It is home to the Air Force's 59th Medical Wing and the Army's 502nd Air Base Wing.
